LiveCD’s

Okay, if you haven’t tried this, please go out and download an image, burn it to CD and give it a spin (literally).

Talk about live demo and ease of use for the first time user or the person responsible for lab or training room setup.

So here is a LiveCD download list https://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

Here is a LiveCD I tried on my Gateway Tablet PC that is running Windows Tablet XP SP2 http://software.opensuse.org/

Here is the a free iso CD burning utility http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/v2.htm by Alex Feinman

Here is the how to burn a iso at https://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

So we can do the same kind of thing with Windows Embedded XP and the Windows Server Appliance Kits, so where are they to try?

Here is one way via Bart’s Pe-installed Environments that I am going to try out https://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

VM/VPC

So here is the Microsoft VPC and there is a free download trial version https://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

So here is a how to http://kbalertz.com/912826/create-Virtual-image-using-backup-image.aspx

Here is the VM Site and Player https://www.vmware.com/products/player/

Here is a VM Image for a Ubuntu with Firefox browser to try https://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/browserapp.html

Also note the VM player will play Microsoft VPC Images you create… Cool eh?

Virtual Labs and Training Sessions

Microsoft MSDN Hosts all these http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/virtuallabs/default.aspx

Microsoft Technet Hosts all these http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb467605.aspx

Cert Hosts These https://www.vte.cert.org/vteweb/Library/Library.aspx

Description:Demonstration using the First Responder Toolkit Methodology(FRTM) for building a trusted forensic tool. https://www.vte.cert.org/vteweb/ContentPlayer/ContentPlayer.aspx?ContentItemID=230

What do you think?

So LiveCD’s, VM/VPC Images or Virtual Labs for running, evaluation, testing, documentation, training or education.

Personally I find them all useful, what are your thoughts?
